Why is my dog pooping on my bed? Quick tips to stop this annoying behavior

Okay, so, picture this: I woke up this morning, same as always, but something’s off. There’s a smell. Not a good one. And then I saw it. My dog, my sweet little buddy, had pooped on my bed. On. My. Bed! I mean, seriously, what the heck?

Why is my dog pooping on my bed? Quick tips to stop this annoying behavior

First thing’s first, I got my dog, Buddy, outside. He seemed fine, maybe a little confused as to why I was rushing him out the door. Once he was doing his business in the yard, I went back inside to deal with the mess.

I stripped the bed, threw everything in the wash, and scrubbed the mattress like my life depended on it. I used some heavy-duty cleaner I had, hoping it would get rid of the smell. It was a total disaster zone, but I managed to clean it up.

Now, I had to figure out why this happened. Buddy’s usually so good about going outside. I racked my brain.

  • Could it be he’s sick? He seemed okay, but maybe something was upsetting his stomach.
  • Maybe he was anxious? I’ve been working a lot lately, and he gets a little stressed when I’m gone.
  • Or was it just an accident? He’s a good boy. Could be that, I guess.

I decided to keep a close eye on him. I took him out more often, especially right before bed, just like the internet suggested. I also made sure to give him tons of praise and treats when he did his business outside. “Good boy, Buddy! Good boy!” I kept saying, hoping it would sink in.

I also started a little bedtime routine, like one website said. I’d dim the lights, turn off the TV, you know, make it clear that it was bedtime and time to chill. I noticed that he did seem to be getting the routine idea.

It’s been a few days now, and so far, so good. No more accidents on the bed. Fingers crossed it stays that way! I’m still watching him closely, though. If it happens again, I’m definitely taking him to the vet to rule out any medical issues. It’s a work in progress, but I’m determined to get to the bottom of this, literally.

I really hope that I can quickly get over this. I really love my dog!
