Now, I know Loki from the Marvel movies and the TV show, and I think it’s a pretty badass name. But I wanted to dig a little deeper. What does this name actually mean, especially for a dog? Is it just a trendy name, or is there more to it?

What’s in a Name?

First, I hit up Google to see what the general consensus was. Turns out, Loki is a pretty popular name for dogs! In fact, in 2021 it ranked 22 in the top 100 most popular Male dog names and the 12 most popular dog name now. Who knew?

I also found out that the name Loki comes from Norse mythology. This Loki guy was the god of mischief and trickery. Apparently, he could change his shape and even his gender! That’s pretty wild. It seems like a fitting name for a dog with a big personality, maybe one who’s a bit naughty.

Getting Input from Others

Next, I decided to ask around on some dog forums and social media groups. I wanted to see what other dog owners thought about the name Loki.

  • Some people said they chose the name because of the Marvel character. They thought it was a cool and unique name.
  • Others said they chose it because of the Norse mythology connection. They liked the idea of naming their dog after a god, even if it was a mischievous one.
  • A few people mentioned that their dogs named Loki actually lived up to the name! They were playful, energetic, and sometimes a bit mischievous.

Checking Out Famous Lokis

Then, I remembered that there’s a famous dog on Instagram named Loki. He’s a wolfdog with nearly 2 million followers! I checked out his page, and he definitely seems to live up to the name. He’s adventurous, playful, and has a ton of personality. Seems like his owner, Kelly Lund, chose the perfect name.

Making My Decision

After doing all this research and getting input from others, I’ve decided that Loki is a great name for a dog. It’s cool, it’s unique, and it has a fun backstory. Plus, it seems like dogs named Loki tend to be playful and full of personality. I think it would be a perfect name for my future furry friend. Now, all I have to do is find the right dog to fit the name!

I adopted a husky puppy a week later, and guess what? I named him Loki! He’s already living up to the name, always getting into something and keeping me on my toes. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s been an adventure so far, and I can’t wait to see what kind of mischief we get into together.

So, that’s my story of how I came to choose the name Loki for my dog. It was a bit of a journey, but I’m happy with my decision. I think it’s important to put some thought into your dog’s name, and I hope my experience can help others who are trying to find the perfect name for their furry friend.
