Petco vs Petsmart Dog Food Prices: Unveiling the True Cost of Feeding Your Dog.
Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to figure out which pet store is easier on the wallet when it comes to dog food, Petco or PetSmart. You know, with prices going up everywhere, every penny counts, right?
First off, I grabbed my phone and started checking out their websites. I noticed right away that PetSmart seems to have a ton of options, especially for natural dog food. I saw something like 300 different natural food choices! Made a mental note of that.
Then, I decided to do a little experiment. I picked out ten common items that most dog owners would buy, you know, like food, a bed, some toys. I added the same stuff to a virtual cart on both sites, just to see how the totals would compare.
Shopping list
- Dry dog food
- Wet dog food
- Dog treats
- A dog bed
- A leash
- A collar
- A couple of chew toys
- Food and water bowls
- Some poop bags (gotta have those!)
- A dog brush
It was a bit of a hassle, but hey, I was on a mission. And you know what? Generally speaking, PetSmart’s prices were a bit lower. Not by a huge margin, but enough to notice. Especially on things like toys and some of the small pet supplies, the difference was more obvious.
After that, I dug around online for some reviews and stuff. Found a few that talked about Petco having better prices on some name-brand pet foods, and if you sign up for their delivery thing, you can save even more. I don’t usually buy online because, well, who wants to carry those heavy bags? But it might be worth considering.
I also stumbled upon some info about vet services. Apparently, Petco’s vet prices are generally cheaper, but PetSmart’s Banfield thing offers more comprehensive care. I don’t need vet services right now, but it’s good to know.
So, after all this digging around, I figured PetSmart might be a tad cheaper overall, especially for things like beds and toys. But for certain dog food brands, Petco could be the better deal, especially with their delivery option. It’s kind of a toss-up, to be honest. I guess it really depends on what you’re buying. But hey, at least now I have a better idea of where to look for deals!
Oh, and I found out that some big company called BC Partners owns PetSmart. Doesn’t really change anything for me, but it’s interesting, I guess.
