Okay, so the other day, I started noticing my dog, Buddy, limping a bit after our walks. He’s getting up there in age, and I figured it was probably just some arthritis acting up. I remembered seeing something about Meloxidyl being good for that, so I decided to look into it.

First, I dug around online to find out more about this Meloxidyl stuff. Turns out, it’s a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which basically means it helps with pain and inflammation. Seemed like it could be just what Buddy needed. But the tricky part was figuring out the right dosage. There are these charts and stuff, but it’s all a bit confusing.

I found this one chart that helps you pick the right size bottle of Meloxidyl based on your dog’s weight and how long they need to take it. It says for the first day, you give 0.09 mg per pound, and then after that, it’s 0.045 mg per pound. The concentration of this stuff is 1.5, whatever that means.

Then, I learned that Meloxidyl comes with these two different syringes for giving it to your dog. One is for small dogs under 15 pounds, and the other is for bigger dogs 15 pounds and up. Since Buddy is a big boy, around 60 pounds, I knew I’d need the big syringe. It says to use the small syringe to measure it out, I guess that is to make it easier to be more precise.

There was also something about choosing the bottle size based on how long the prescription is for. It talked about how many days a bottle would last based on giving that 0.09 mg per pound on the first day. I just kind of skimmed over that part, to be honest. I mean, I need to get the dosage right first.

So, to figure out Buddy’s dosage, I grabbed a calculator. I typed in his weight, 60 pounds, and multiplied it by 0.09 to get the first day’s dose. That came out to 5.4 mg. Then, for the following days, I multiplied his weight by 0.045, which gave me 2.7 mg. Not too bad to figure out, I guess.

Anyway, I ended up finding a simple online calculator where all I had to do was put in Buddy’s weight and click “Calculate Dosage.” It spit out the same numbers I had calculated, so that was a relief. At least I know I’m on the right track now.

Next, I’ll talk to his vet to make sure this is all correct, but I just wanted to figure it out myself first. I hate feeling clueless, you know? Hopefully, this Meloxidyl will help Buddy feel better. He’s such a good boy, and I want him to be comfortable in his old age.

    What I Did:

  • Looked up information about Meloxidyl.
  • Found dosage charts and information.
  • Learned about the different syringes.
  • Calculated Buddy’s dosage manually.
  • Used an online calculator to double-check.

It wasn’t too hard once I got the hang of it. Now I just need to make sure I’m giving it to him correctly. Wish me luck!
