Indian Male Dog Names: Simple Tips to Choose the Right One!

So, I’ve been thinking about getting a dog for a while now, and I’m really into the idea of giving it an Indian name. You know, something different and cool. I spent a good chunk of yesterday diving into this, and let me tell you, it was quite the journey!

Indian Male Dog Names: Simple Tips to Choose the Right One!

I started off just Googling “Indian dog names” and, man, did that open a can of worms. There were so many lists! I clicked on a few and started jotting down names that sounded interesting. I was looking for something easy to say, not too long. You know, something that wouldn’t confuse the little guy when I’m calling him in the park.

I also read that it’s not a great idea to pick a name that sounds like a command. Like, if you name him “Kit,” he might think you’re saying “sit” all the time. Makes sense, right? So I was crossing names off my list that were like that.

  • Teja – Sounded strong, I liked it.
  • Gogo – Super cute and easy to remember.
  • Mogambo – A bit of a mouthful, but has that cool villain vibe, haha.
  • Ballu, Pappu, Baburao – These were fun, reminded me of some classic Bollywood movies.
  • Sultan, Katiya – These felt powerful, you know?
  • Kaya, Maya, Rani, Jani – Some of these were more on the feminine side, but still cool.
  • Mastani, Peshwa – These had a historical ring to them, which I found pretty awesome.

Then I stumbled upon some articles talking about the significance of dogs in Hinduism. Did you know that dogs are seen as a vehicle or embodiment of a deity? In Sanskrit, they’re called “Shvan.” I thought that was pretty neat. It gave the whole name-choosing thing a bit more depth, you know?

After a few hours, I had a solid list of names I liked. I started saying them out loud, imagining myself calling out to my future dog. I even tried yelling a few to see how they sounded from a distance. I might have confused my neighbors a bit, but it was worth it. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a few favorites, but I’m still not 100% sure.

It’s a big decision, naming a dog! It’s like, this name is gonna stick with them for their whole life. I want it to be perfect. What do you guys think? Any suggestions or thoughts on the names I’ve picked out so far? Let me know in the comments!
