Choosing Dog Names For Big Ears: A Guide For New Puppy Parents

Okay, so I’ve got this dog, right? And this dude’s got some serious ears. I mean, they’re huge! Like, satellite dish huge. Picking out a name for him turned into a whole thing. I wanted something that kinda poked fun at his big ol’ ears but was still cool, you know?

First, I started just brainstorming. I sat down with a notepad and jot anything down that came to mind. Stuff like “Radar,” “Hopper,” even silly stuff like “Flappy.” None of it really felt right, though.

Then, I figured I’d hit the internet. I googled “dog names for big ears,” of course. Lots of lists popped up, some good suggestions, some totally lame. I read through a bunch of articles, looking for something that clicked. There were names inspired by famous big-eared characters, and even some mythological creatures with big ears. I even found some tips on how to teach a dog its name, you know, using a happy tone and all that. I made a new list, just from the stuff I saw on some websites that I thought I’d like. It was better than my first list, but I still hadn’t found the one.

After that, I thought about my favorite movies and books. Maybe there was a character with big ears that I loved? I spent a good hour just racking my brain, trying to remember anything that fit. I added a few more names to my list, but nothing was really jumping out at me.

Finally, I decided to just watch my dog for a while. I figured maybe his personality would give me some inspiration. I watched him play, run around, and of course, those big ears were flopping everywhere. And then it hit me! “Dumbo!” It was perfect! A little on the nose, maybe, but it fit him so well. It’s a classic, it’s cute, and it’s got that little bit of humor I was looking for.

So, yeah, my big-eared buddy is now named Dumbo. And he seems to like it! Every time I say his name in a happy voice, he comes running, ears flapping in the wind. It was a bit of a process, but I’m glad I took the time to find the perfect name for him.
