Why Your Dog Needs Water Thickener: A Quick and Easy Explanation

Okay, so, I’ve noticed that my dog, bless his furry little heart, just wasn’t drinking enough water. Especially during these hot summer days. It kinda worried me, you know? Like, he’d be panting like crazy after a walk, but barely touch his water bowl. I mean, everyone knows water is life, so I started to get concerned.

Why Your Dog Needs Water Thickener: A Quick and Easy Explanation

I did a little digging online – not the best source, I know, but I was desperate. I found some stuff about how much water a dog needs, and apparently it’s more than you’d think. There was even some fancy calculator, I did not try it at all, so I can not figure out about how much water my dog needs.

So, I started thinking, maybe the water just wasn’t appealing to him? Like, would you wanna drink plain old tap water all day? Probably not. So I thought, what if I could make it… tastier? I remembered seeing somewhere that you can add a little bit of no-salt broth to their water.

First, I tried adding a tiny bit of that low-sodium chicken broth I use for cooking. Just a splash, mind you. And guess what? He started lapping it up! It was like he was a whole new dog. Tail wagging, happy as a clam. But I did not want my dog get used to the salty water, that is no good.

I kept experimenting. Sometimes I drop in a couple of ice cubes, especially when it’s really hot. He seems to like that too. He crunches on them, and it keeps him cool.

  • I tried adding broth.
  • I tried adding ice cubes.
  • I tried changing his water bowl position.

I started to notice a difference, he has more energy, especially in the afternoons, he’d get really lethargic before, but now he’s up for playing fetch in the park, even when it’s warm. I think his digestion is better too, since I read somewhere that water helps with that. No more tummy troubles, thank goodness.

My takeaway from this?

Paying attention to your dog’s water intake is super important. It is not enough to just put the water there. And sometimes, they just need a little encouragement. Making their water a bit more interesting can make a big difference. I’m so glad I figured this out. Now, I’m not constantly worrying about him being dehydrated. Instead, I can actually enjoy our walks and playtime together.

I’m not saying I’m a dog expert or anything, but this little experiment really worked for me. Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else. Keep those pups hydrated, folks! They’ll thank you for it.
