Top Merrick Canned Dog Food Reviews: Find the Best Flavors for Your Dog!
Okay, so I've been meaning to switch up my dog's food for a while now. He's been getting a little, shall we say, fluffy around the edges. Plus, his poops have been… less than ideal. So, I figured it was time to do some research and see what else was out there. I decided to try out Merrick canned dog food, mostly because I'd heard good things about the brand.

First thing I did was hit up the internet, of course. I spent a good hour just reading reviews and comparing different types. I needed something to tackle my dog's specific issues.
Digging into the Options
- Grain-Free vs. Grain-Inclusive: Merrick has both, so that was the first decision. My dog doesn't have any known allergies, but I figured grain-free might help with his digestion, and I wanted to improve his digestion.
- Flavors, Flavors, Flavors: They've got everything from beef and chicken to duck and even venison. My dog is a total chicken fiend, so I figured I'd start there.
- Different Product Lines: They have Classic, Backcountry, Limited Ingredient… it was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. I opted for a grain-free and chicken flavor to start with.
I looked at some of their classic recipes, and they seemed pretty solid. Lots of meat, some veggies, and no weird fillers I couldn't pronounce. They looked pretty good!
So, I finally settled on a few cans of the Merrick Grain-Free Real Chicken recipe. Time for the taste test!
The Moment of Truth
I popped open the can, and honestly, it didn't smell half bad. Not like some of those other dog foods that make you want to gag. It actually looked like real food, with chunks of chicken and some gravy.
My dog, of course, went absolutely bonkers. He was practically drooling before I even got the food in his bowl. He scarfed it down in about two seconds flat, which is always a good sign.
The Aftermath
Now, the real test was the… aftermath. I'm happy to report that things have definitely improved in the poop department. They're more solid, less frequent, and just… better. He also seems to have a bit more energy, which is great.
I've only been using Merrick for a couple of weeks, but so far, so good. He seems to love it, and I'm seeing some positive changes. I'll probably try some of their other flavors down the line, just to keep things interesting for him. I'll likely be trying some more varieties based on the success I've seen thus far!
