Should You Feed Beet Pulp for Dogs? (Pros & Cons)

Okay, so I've been messing around with my dog's diet lately, trying to find something that helps with his, uh, "output," if you know what I mean. He's been having some loose stools, and it's just not fun for anyone. I heard about beet pulp for dogs and thought, "Why not give it a shot?"

My Beet Pulp Experiment

First, I did some digging. I wanted some info from the Internet. It sounds weird, I know, but apparently, it's the stuff left over after they take the sugar out of sugar beets. Sounds kinda gross, but it's supposed to be good for fiber.

I didn't want to just throw a bunch of beet pulp into his food. I went and got some dog food that already had beet pulp in it. The bag will listed it as an ingredient, so that's how I knew.

  • Day 1-3: I started by mixing a little bit of the new food with his old food. Didn't want to shock his system, you know? He didn't seem to notice any difference, which was good. He just gobbled it down like usual.
  • Day 4-7: I gradually increased the amount of the new food and decreased the old food. Still keeping an eye on his, ahem, "business." Things were starting to look a little...firmer. Promising!

After a full two weeks.I am so excited for the final result! I think the only food with beet pulp is working for him, His poops are more solid, and he seems to be going more regularly, but not in a bad way. It's just, like, a good, healthy schedule. I'm no vet, but I think the added fiber from the beet pulp is doing the trick.

I'm gonna keep him on this food for a while and see how it goes. So far, so good, though! It's definitely made our walks a lot more pleasant, let me tell you.
