Okay, so I wanted to share how I landed on a name for the new dog. It turned out to be quite the little project, let me tell you.

Right from the start, this dog had some serious energy. Bouncing off the walls, a bit chaotic, you know? Not in a bad way, just... a lot. Like a little force of nature. That got me thinking, I needed a name that kind of captured that wild, powerful vibe. The word 'storm' kept popping into my head.

My First Steps

So, I actually sat down and started jotting down names directly related to storms. My first list looked something like this:

  • Thunder
  • Lightning
  • Bolt
  • Gale
  • Tempest
  • Stormy

Seemed like a good starting point, right? I looked them over. Thunder felt strong, classic even, but maybe too common? Everyone knows a dog named Thunder, seems like. Lightning and Bolt had that quick, energetic feel which was definitely fitting. Gale was interesting, less heard of. Tempest? Felt a bit dramatic, maybe too much for yelling across the park. And Stormy was just too literal, didn't quite roll off the tongue for me.

Trying Things Out

Next, I started actually saying the names out loud, trying to imagine calling the dog. "Bolt, come here!" Yeah, that sounded okay. Quick, sharp. "Gale! Sit!" Hmm, sounded a bit soft maybe? My neighbor's name is Gail, so that might get confusing too.

I tried Thunder for an afternoon. "Good boy, Thunder!" It sounded okay, felt powerful. But still, that feeling of it being too common lingered. I didn't want him to be one of five Thunders at the dog park.

Then I thought, maybe not a literal storm word? What about names that just felt strong or had that dark, intense vibe? I thought about names like Hunter, or maybe Cole, like coal, because he's got dark fur. Or something with a hard sound. Ryder came to mind, sounded active.

Landing on the Name

It was getting tricky. I wanted something that fit his personality, that sort of stormy energy, but wasn't maybe so obvious. I kept going back to the sound, that feeling of power but also maybe a little bit rough around the edges, since he's a rescue and we don't know his whole story.

I was saying a few names to him, just seeing if anything clicked. And then I tried Rocco. It just sounded... solid. Strong. Had that 'R' sound like 'Rumble' or 'Roar' maybe, but wasn't a direct weather word. It felt tough, but still like a name you could yell affectionately.

So, Rocco it was. It felt right. It captured that sort of controlled chaos, that strong presence he has, without being a literal storm name like Thunder or Bolt. It just fit him.

It's funny how you go through lists and ideas, and then one name just clicks. Took a bit of thinking, trying stuff out, but we got there. Now I just gotta get Rocco to actually answer to it consistently!
