Purina Pro Plan or Kirkland Dog Food? A Simple Comparison Guide!

Okay, folks, let's dive into my little experiment comparing Purina Pro Plan and Kirkland dog food. I've got two furry friends at home – a super picky Golden Retriever named Max and a Labrador, Lucy, who'd probably eat my socks if I let her. So, I figured, why not see which food they prefer and how it affects them?

The Setup

First, I grabbed a bag of Purina Pro Plan (the chicken and rice formula, because that's what they usually eat) and a bag of Kirkland Signature Nature's Domain (the salmon and sweet potato one – trying to be a bit fancy!).

The Taste Test (aka Dinner Time!)

I started by giving them each a bowl of their usual Pro Plan. No surprises there – Max sniffed it for a good minute before starting to eat (typical!), and Lucy inhaled it in about 30 seconds flat.

Next, I switched things up. I put down a bowl of the Kirkland food for each of them. Max, Mr. Picky Pants, actually seemed interested! He ate it without his usual dramatic pause. Lucy, well, she ate it even faster than the Pro Plan. I think she might have a food vacuum installed somewhere.

The Observation Period

I kept them on the Kirkland food for about two weeks, keeping a close eye on things. I was looking for a few key things:

  • Poop patrol: Yeah, it's not glamorous, but it's important! I wanted to see if the Kirkland food caused any, um, digestive issues.
  • Energy levels: Were they still their usual bouncy selves, or did they seem more sluggish?
  • Coat condition: Was their fur still shiny and healthy-looking?

The Results

Here's what I found:

  • Poop: Surprisingly, both dogs did great on the Kirkland food. No upset stomachs, no weirdness. All good in the poop department!
  • Energy: No change. Max was still his moderately energetic self (he's a bit of a couch potato), and Lucy was still a bouncing ball of fur.
  • Coat: Both dogs' coats looked fantastic. Maybe even a little shinier than usual, especially Lucy's.

To be honest both did very well, and I even consider about switch to Kirkland for the long term, because Max likes it, and also the price is much better.

So, there you have it – my little dog food experiment. Keep in mind, every dog is different, so what worked for my pups might not work for yours. But hopefully, this gives you a little bit of insight!
