Puppy Ate Too Much? Heres What to Do (Simple Steps)

Okay, here's my blog post about my puppy eating too much, written in the style you described:

Puppy Ate Too Much? Heres What to Do (Simple Steps)

So, the other day, my little fur-ball, Buster, got into a bit of a... situation. Let's just say his eyes were definitely bigger than his stomach.

The Discovery

I came downstairs in the morning, ready to start the day, and found the dog food bag looking like it had been through a warzone. Kibble EVERYWHERE. And there's Buster, looking like a furry little blimp, barely able to waddle.

The Panic!

My first thought? Oh no! How can I help my lovely puppy. I immediately to search some useful infomation on Internet, and use my experience to help him.

The Action Plan

  • First, I took away the food bag. No more temptations! I put it way up high where he couldn't possibly reach it, even if he suddenly developed super-dog jumping abilities.
  • Then, it was water only. I figured his tummy needed a break from digesting all that extra food. I made sure he had plenty of fresh water available to help flush things out.
  • Try to moniter. I kept eyes on him, then write down something I observed.
  • Next, I watched him like a hawk. I mean, REALLY watched him. Was he throwing up? Was he pooping okay? Any weird behavior? Luckily, he seemed mostly okay, just super sleepy.
  • No More food untill next day, I decided to prepare some easy food for him like soft bone.

The Waiting Game

Honestly, the hardest part was just waiting. I spent the whole day hovering around Buster, checking on him every five minutes. He mostly just slept it off, which I guess is what his body needed.

The Outcome

By the next morning, he was back to his usual bouncy self, maybe a little bit more cautious around the food bag. I learned my lesson, though. That food bag is now stored in Fort Knox, aka the top shelf of the pantry, behind a locked door. Puppy-proofing is a never-ending job, I tell ya!

I will buy a food storage for my puppy, then put a fixed amount of dog food.
