Nemex 2 Dosage for Puppies: How Much is Safe?

Okay, folks, let's talk about my little adventure with Nemex 2 and my new puppy, Sparky.

Nemex 2 Dosage for Puppies: How Much is Safe?

So, I got this adorable 8-week-old Golden Retriever, and of course, the first thing on my mind after cuddles was, "Worms! Gotta get rid of those nasty things!". I did a bit of digging, and Nemex 2 kept popping up as a good option for puppies. It's supposed to be safe and effective, so I felt okay giving it a try.

Figuring out the Dosage

This is where it got a little tricky. The bottle gives instructions, of course, but I'm always a bit paranoid about getting it right.I really want to know the * instructions said that the right dose I should give my puppy.

Here's what I did:

  • Weighed Sparky: First things first, I needed to know how much the little fluffball weighed. I used my regular bathroom scale, held Sparky, and then subtracted my weight. He came in at a whopping 5 pounds!
  • Read, Re-Read, and Re-Re-Read the Label: I'm not kidding, I probably read the dosage instructions on the Nemex 2 bottle five times. I wanted to be absolutely sure. It generally talks about dosage per pound, so I made sure I understood that part.
  • Double-Checked with the Vet: Even after all that, I still felt better getting a professional opinion. I called my vet's office and just confirmed the dosage I had calculated based on Sparky's weight. They gave me the thumbs up, which was a huge relief.

Actually Giving Sparky the Medicine

Okay, dosage sorted. Now for the fun part – actually getting Sparky to take the Nemex 2. It's a liquid, and I was a bit worried he'd spit it out.

Here's my strategy:

  • I did some measurement,according to vet's advice.
  • The Sneaky Approach: I decided to mix the measured dose of Nemex 2 with a tiny bit of his wet puppy food. He loves that stuff, so I figured he wouldn't even notice the medicine.
  • Slow and Steady: I used a small syringe (without the needle, obviously!) to slowly squirt the food/medicine mixture into the side of his mouth. I didn't want to overwhelm him.
  • Success!: He slurped it right down! No fuss, no spitting, no problem. I was pretty proud of myself (and Sparky!).

The Aftermath

After giving him the Nemex 2, I kept a close eye on Sparky for any signs of a reaction. Thankfully, he was his usual playful self. No vomiting, no diarrhea, nothing out of the ordinary. A few days later, I took a stool sample to the vet for a checkup, and they confirmed the worms were gone! Mission accomplished.

So, that's my Nemex 2 story. Always remember to be super careful with medications, especially with puppies. Double-check, triple-check, and don't be afraid to ask your vet for advice!
