Okay, so I decided to make some mini dog toys for my little pup, Peanut. He's a chihuahua mix, and he loves to chew, but most store-bought toys are way too big for him.

First, I gathered my materials. I had some old fleece blankets that I didn't use anymore, perfect for cutting up. I also grabbed some scissors, a needle and thread (I'm not great at sewing, but hey, it's for a dog!), and some stuffing from an old pillow.

Cutting and Stuffing

  • I cut the fleece into small squares, roughly 4x4 inches. I figured this would be a good size for Peanut to carry around and gnaw on.
  • Then, I took two squares and placed them together, wrong sides facing out.
  • I started sewing around the edges, leaving a small opening on one side. Like I said, my sewing skills aren't amazing, so it wasn't pretty, but it was functional!
  • Once I had most of it sewn up, I flipped the fabric right-side out through the opening.
  • Next, I stuffed the little square with the pillow stuffing. I made sure it wasn't too packed, just enough to give it some shape and make it fun for Peanut to chew.
  • Finally, I sewed up the opening. Again, not pretty, but it held!

I repeated this process a few times, making a couple of different sized toys. I even tried making a little bone shape out of the fleece, which was a bit more challenging, but it turned out okay!

Peanut loves his new mini toys! He carries them around, chews on them, and even plays fetch with them (they don't go very far, but he doesn't seem to mind). It was a super easy and cheap way to make some custom toys for my tiny dog, and it was totally worth it to see him so happy.
