Need Ivermectin for Dogs Dosage in CC? Heres What You Should Know

Okay, so I’ve been dealing with this whole heartworm thing with my dog, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I wanted to share what I’ve learned about using ivermectin, especially when it comes to figuring out the right dosage in ccs. It’s not as straightforward as you might think, and I definitely had to do some digging.

First off, I scheduled a visit to the vet. That’s the obvious first step, right? You gotta make sure you’re dealing with heartworms and not something else. My vet ran some tests and confirmed the diagnosis. We talked about treatment options, and I mentioned I’d heard about using ivermectin.

Now, here’s where it gets a bit tricky. My vet explained that ivermectin is often used off-label for heartworm prevention, meaning it’s not specifically approved for that purpose in dogs, but it can be effective. He also mentioned that it comes in different formulations, like the injectable kind used for livestock, and that’s where the dosage calculations become super important.

I started doing a lot of research online. I found some helpful forums and websites, but honestly, it was kind of overwhelming. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there, and I definitely didn’t want to mess this up. My dog’s health is on the line, you know?

What I eventually figured out is that the dosage depends on a few things:

  • The concentration of the ivermectin product you’re using. For example 1% ivermectin contains 10mg of ivermectin per ml.
  • Your dog’s weight.
  • Whether you’re using it for prevention or treatment.

For example my dog weights 50 pounds, I need to use 0.15ml for prevention and 0.68ml for treatment. To calculate this I use this formula:

  • For prevention: (Dog’s weight in pounds / 2.2) 0.003
  • For treatment: (Dog’s weight in pounds / 2.2) 0.015

I double-checked everything with my vet, and he helped me calculate the precise dosage for my dog based on his weight and the specific ivermectin product I was using. He also showed me how to measure it out accurately using a syringe, which was a huge help.

So, I started giving my dog the ivermectin as directed. I was a little nervous at first, but everything went smoothly. I monitored him closely for any side effects, but thankfully, he didn’t have any issues.

We’re still in the process of getting rid of these heartworms, but I feel a lot better now that I have a handle on the ivermectin dosage. It’s definitely not something to take lightly, but with careful research, and most importantly, guidance from your vet, it can be a safe and effective treatment option. Please be noted that this article is only for my personal experience. Don’t use ivermectin without a vet’s instruction.
