Need durable dog toy slippers? Find tough slipper toys that can withstand lots of chewing and play.
Okay, so I decided to make some dog toy slippers the other weekend. Sounds kinda weird, right? Well, my dog, Max, he's got this obsession with my regular slippers. Always snatching them. So I thought, fine, I'll make slippers that actually look like one of his toys. Maybe it'll confuse him, or maybe it's just funny. Who knows.

Getting Started
First thing, I needed materials. I didn't want to spend a ton, so I looked around. Found an old pair of flip-flops I never wear, figured I could use the soles as a base. Smart, huh? Then, fabric. I wanted that soft, fuzzy feel like his plush toys have. Went to the craft store and grabbed some brown fuzzy stuff and some white felt for details.
Here's basically what I got together:
- Old flip-flops (just needed the soles)
- Fuzzy brown fabric
- White felt
- Stuffing (like for pillows or toys)
- Needle and thread (my sewing machine is moody)
- Strong glue
Putting It All Together
Alright, the making part. I started by tracing the flip-flop soles onto the brown fabric, leaving extra space around the edges. Cut out four of those shapes – two for the top, two for the bottom part that touches the sole. I also cut out some bone shapes from the white felt, thinking I'd stick 'em on top later.
Then came the sewing. This was... an adventure. I basically sewed the top brown piece to the bottom brown piece around the edges, leaving the back open like a real slipper. Tried to make it puffy, so I put some stuffing inside before sewing it completely onto the flip-flop sole outline piece. Getting the shape right was tricky. They looked less like sleek slippers and more like fluffy blobs for a while.
I decided to make them look like those plush squeaky bones Max loves. So, after stuffing the main slipper part, I hand-sewed the white felt bone shapes onto the top. That part was fiddly. My stitches aren't exactly professional, let's just say that.
Finally, I had these two fluffy, bone-decorated slipper tops. I used the strong glue to attach them firmly onto the old flip-flop soles. Had to let that sit for ages to make sure it stuck properly. The glue smell was pretty strong for a bit.
The Result?
So, how did they turn out? Honestly, they look pretty ridiculous. They are definitely puffy, definitely fuzzy, and they sort of look like dog bone toys. They're surprisingly comfy, though! The flip-flop sole gives them some structure.
And Max? He sniffed them suspiciously for a good five minutes. He even tried to gently mouth one, probably thinking it was a new toy for him. But he hasn't tried to run off with them like my old ones. Maybe my plan kinda worked? Or maybe they just smell too much like glue still.

Anyway, it was a fun little project. Took most of an afternoon. They're the weirdest slippers I own now, but my feet are warm, and it gives me a chuckle when I look down. Probably won't be making another pair soon, hand-sewing that fuzzy stuff was a pain. But hey, I did it.
