Okay, so I've got this Blue Tick Coonhound, right? Super cute, energetic as heck, but I was totally blanking on a name. I wanted something that fit her, you know? Not just "Spot" or "Rover." Something that captured that cool blue-grey coat and that hound dog spirit.
So, first, I hit up Google. Just typed in "blue tick dog names" and, bam, tons of lists. Lots of the usual suspects - "Blue," "Smokey," "Shadow" - which, okay, they're fine, but they felt kinda generic. I scrolled through a bunch of those, making a mental note of a few that weren't terrible.
Then I thought, "Okay, let's get more specific." I started thinking about her personality. She's a total goofball, always sniffing EVERYTHING, and she's got this amazing howl. So I started brainstorming names related to those things.
- "Hunter" - Too obvious.
- "Tracker" - Getting warmer...
- "Howler" - A bit on the nose, maybe?
I wasn't loving any of those. I have also considered using a name that means blue.
- "Indigo" - Kind of cool, but maybe too...fancy?
- "Azure" - Same problem.
- "Sapphire" - Didn't think so, but maybe I can name it after a blue gem.
I also jotted down names that are famous with blue coat.
- "Old Blue" - But I want a unique name.
- "Blue" - That's it?
I kept digging, though. I found some sites that suggested names based on mythology or even old blues singers. That got me thinking about maybe a name with a bit of history or a story behind it.
Finally, after all that searching and thinking, and after spending a few days just watching her run around and be her crazy self, I settled on "Juniper." It's not directly "blue," but junipers have those cool blue-ish berries, and it just felt right. It's a little bit different, a little bit spunky, just like her.
So, yeah, that's the whole saga of naming my Blue Tick. It took a bit of effort, but it was worth it to find a name that really suits her.
