Okay, so my furry buddy, Max, suddenly decided he's too good for his dry food. It was a whole thing, let me tell you. It started gradually, I noticed him picking at his bowl, eating a little, then walking away. I thought, "Maybe he's just not that hungry today." But it kept happening.

The Investigation Begins

First, I checked the food itself. I sniffed it (yeah, I went there) to make sure it hadn't gone bad. It smelled okay, like, you know, dog food. I even checked the expiration date – plenty of time left.

Next, I examined Max. I poked and prodded him (gently, of course!) to see if he had any sore spots. Nothing. He was his usual bouncy, tail-wagging self. I checked his teeth and mouth, but nothing seem off.

Experiment Time

  • I tried a different brand of dry food. Nope. He sniffed it and walked away like it was poison.
  • I mixed in some warm water to soften it up. He ate a little more, but still wasn't thrilled.
  • I even tried hand-feeding him. He'd take a few pieces, then lose interest.

The Breakthrough (Sort Of)

Then, out of desperation, I added a tiny bit of wet food to his dry food. Bingo! He gobbled it down. It was like a light switch flipped.

The Current Situation

So, now I'm stuck mixing wet and dry food. It's not ideal, but at least he's eating. I'm planning on talking to the vet about it at his next checkup, just to make sure there's nothing else going on. Maybe he's just become a picky eater, or maybe his taste has changed. Who knows with these dogs, right? It's a constant learning experience, that is for sure. For now, I just continue mixing his food to keep him eating, and will continue to watch him when he is eating!
