Alright, let's talk about this dog tug toy I made the other day. My dog, Max, he just destroys everything, you know? Especially the rope toys from the pet store. They last maybe five minutes, tops. Such a waste of cash. So I figured, I gotta make something tougher myself.
Finding the Goods
I started rummaging around. What's tough and I don't need anymore? Looked in the closet, found a couple pairs of old jeans. Denim's pretty sturdy, right? Also grabbed some old t-shirts that were basically rags anyway. Thought the mix of materials might work well, give it some different textures.

Getting Down to It
Okay, so I got my scissors. Man, cutting denim is harder than you think. Especially the thick seams. My hands were getting sore. I cut the jeans into long strips, maybe like two inches wide? Did the same with the t-shirts, those were way easier to cut, obviously. Ended up with a decent pile of fabric strips.
Then I just grabbed a bunch of strips, maybe six or seven? Mixed the denim and the t-shirt bits together. Lined them up and tied a massive knot at one end. Pulled it super tight because Max pulls like a freight train. Then, I started braiding them. Just a simple three-strand braid, but I split my strips into three groups first. Kept pulling it really tight as I went along. The different fabrics actually made the braid look kinda cool, not that Max cares.
The Final Product
Braided almost all the way down, leaving enough room at the other end to tie another huge knot. Made sure both knots were solid. Gave it a few good test pulls myself. Seemed pretty strong. It wasn't pretty, not like store-bought stuff, but it felt solid.
Gave it to Max. He went nuts. Started thrashing it around, pulling like crazy. We had a good tug session right there in the living room. So far, it's holding up way better than the last few toys I bought. Took maybe an hour? Mostly cutting the stupid denim. But hey, saved some money and kept Max busy. Pretty good result, I'd say.
