Kirkland Chicken & Rice Dog Food: good food for a good price

Okay, so I've been meaning to switch up my dog's food for a while. He's been getting a bit, shall we say, fluffy around the edges, and his poops have been... well, let's just say they haven't been pretty. I'd heard good things about Kirkland Signature stuff from Costco, so I figured I'd give their Chicken and Rice formula a shot.

The Costco Run

First things first, I headed to Costco. You know how it is – you go in for dog food, you come out with a giant tub of cheese balls and a new patio set you didn't need. But I stayed focused (mostly) and grabbed a big bag of the Kirkland Signature Nature's Domain Chicken & Rice. It was a pretty good price, especially compared to some of those fancy-pants brands.

Checking Out the Goods

Back home, I took a look at the bag. The ingredient list seemed decent – chicken as the first ingredient, which is always a good sign. Lots of brown rice, which my vet said is good for sensitive stomachs. It also had some added vitamins and minerals, and probiotics for, you know, gut health. Seemed pretty solid.

The Taste Test (For Him, Not Me!)

Now for the important part: would my dog actually eat it? I poured some into his bowl, and he went straight for it. No sniffing and turning away like he does with some foods. He chowed down like he hadn't eaten in days (even though he had breakfast just a few hours earlier). Success!

  • Day 1: Full switch. He loved it, no problems.
  • Day 3: Poops are looking… better. Definitely firmer. Less… fragrant.
  • Day 7: He seems to have more energy, running around like a crazy pup again.
  • Day 14. I noiticed that his fur become more shinny than before.

The Verdict

It's been a few weeks now, and I'm pretty happy with the switch. My dog seems to be doing great on the Kirkland Chicken and Rice. His, ahem, output is much improved, he's got more pep in his step, and he seems to genuinely enjoy the food. Plus, my wallet's a little happier too. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a good quality, affordable dog food.
