Is Biotene for Dogs safe? (Vet-Approved Tips for Oral Hygiene)

Okay, so I've got a dog, a super cute golden retriever named Buddy. He's getting up there in years, and like a lot of older dogs, he's started having some dental issues. Bad breath, you know? The kind that makes you want to turn your head when he gives you a big, slobbery kiss. I felt bad for him, and I definitely wanted to do something about it.

I started looking around online for solutions, and I kept seeing this stuff called "Biotene" pop up. Apparently, it's good for dry mouth in humans, and some folks were saying it could help dogs with dental problems too.

My Biotene Experiment with Buddy

So, here's what I did:

• I got the stuff. First, I grabbed some Biotene enzymatic water additive. Seemed like the easiest thing to try first.
• Used a clean bowl.

  So I started using a clean water bowl for every time I give water to my dog.

• Added it to his water. I followed the directions on the bottle. It's pretty simple, you just add the dose to his water bowl and make him drink on it.
• Watched him like a hawk. I was a little nervous at first, I didn't add too much dose at first. Making sure he didn't have any weird reactions. Luckily, he didn't seem to notice anything different. He just lapped it up like normal.
• Kept it up. I added it to his water to see what will happen.

Honestly, after a couple of weeks, I started noticing a difference. His breath wasn't nearly as killer as it used to be. It wasn't, like, minty fresh or anything, but it was definitely an improvement.

I'm not saying this stuff is a miracle cure. Buddy still needs regular dental care, and I'm still brushing his teeth as often as he'll let me. But the Biotene water additive seems to be helping keep things a little fresher in between cleanings.
