How much to get dogs nails cut and what to expect?
Okay, so my dog, Buster, he's a good boy, but his nails were getting seriously out of control. Like, click-clack-click-clack on the hardwood floors, it was driving me nuts! I knew I needed to get them trimmed, but I was kinda nervous about doing it myself. I'd heard horror stories of cutting too short and hitting the "quick" (that's the pink part with the blood vessels and nerves). No thanks!
So, I started looking into getting them done professionally. First, I called up my local vet. You know a safe choice, right?
- They said they could do it, but it would be during a regular appointment.
- Which I don't need, I just want the nail cut!
Then I started checking out the pet stores in my area. I called a few. Here is the details:
- The price is about $10-15. It's not too bad, I think.
- It's usually a walk-in thing, so no appointment is needed. This is great!
After I got all the prices, I decided to give the pet store close to my home a try, the price is good, and I don't need to wait for an appointment.
The Actual Nail Cutting
We took Buster to that pet store. And it was pretty smooth sailing!
The groomer was super nice and seemed to know what she was doing. She had this special tool, kind of like a guillotine for nails, and she just snipped away. Buster wasn't thrilled, of course, but he didn't freak out either. He did get some treats as rewards, he loved that!
It took maybe 10 minutes tops, and the groomer even filed them down a bit so they weren't so sharp. Boom! Done. I can't hear any "click" sounds at home anymore, I am very happy about the result.
Honestly, it was way easier than I thought it would be. And for like 12 bucks, plus a tip, it was totally worth it to not have to stress about doing it myself.
My dog is now sporting a fresh pedicure, and my floors are safe.
