Okay, here's my blog post about figuring out the price of a Shorkie puppy:

So, I've been totally obsessed with getting a Shorkie puppy. You know, those adorable little fluffballs that are a mix of Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier? Yeah, one of those. But before I could even start picking out names and tiny sweaters, I needed to know the damage – how much does a Shorkie puppy actually cost?

My journey started, like most things these days, with a Google search. I typed in "Shorkie puppy price" and, boy, did I get a range of numbers! It was all over the place, from a few hundred bucks to a couple of thousand. I was like, "Whoa, that's a big difference!" Clearly, I needed to dig deeper.

My Research Begins

First, I started browsing breeder websites. I figured that was a good place to get some "official" pricing. I found a few Shorkie breeders nearby, and their prices seemed to be mostly in the $800 to $1500 range. But, I noticed some things that seemed to affect the price:

  • Lineage: If the puppy's parents were fancy show dogs or had some special pedigree, the price was definitely higher.
  • Breeder Reputation: Breeders who had been around for a while and had lots of good reviews seemed to charge a bit more. Makes sense, right? You're paying for experience and, hopefully, a healthy puppy.
  • Location: It even seemed like where the breeder was located made a difference. City prices were higher than those out in the country.

Next I explored some adoption options.

I checked out some local shelters and rescue groups online. I didn't see any Shorkies specifically, but they had some other small, fluffy mixes. The adoption fees were way lower, usually around $150 to $400. But of course, with adoption, you don't always know the dog's full history, and you're less likely to find a very young puppy.

What I Learned (and What You Should Consider)

After all my searching and note-taking, here's what I realized. Shorkies are not just about the initial price of the puppy. There is stuff I need to think about, like:

  • Vet Bills: Puppies need shots, checkups, and maybe even to be spayed or neutered. That adds up!
  • Food: Gotta feed the little furball! And good quality puppy food isn't cheap.
  • Supplies: Crate, bed, toys, leash, collar, bowls... the list goes on.
  • Grooming: Shorkies have that long, silky hair. It's gonna need regular brushing and probably professional grooming sometimes.
  • Training: I might want to take my puppy to obedience classes. Those cost money too.

The Final Cost

So, in the end, getting a Shorkie could be anywhere from a couple hundred to a few thousands dollar. I have learned that is not just the dog itself, but also all the things that come after.

For now, I'm still saving up and doing my research. I need to find a good place and get a good dog. But at least I have a much better idea of what I'm getting into, financially speaking! I think I'm going to keep looking at those breeder websites and maybe visit a few to see the puppies in person. Wish me luck!
