Green Tripe Patties for Dogs: Yummy and Healthy Treats!

Okay, so I've been trying to find ways to get my picky eater, Max, to eat healthier. He's a golden retriever with a sensitive stomach, so it's been a challenge. I heard about green tripe and how good it is for dogs, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Making patties seemed like a good way to control the portions and, well, the mess.

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to get my hands on some green tripe. Let me tell you, this stuff is NOT pretty, and it smells...unique. I found a local butcher that sells it, but you can probably find it online too. I bought a couple of pounds, thinking I'd make a big batch.

The Mixing Process

  • I took the tripe out of the packaging, rinsed it a bit. It was slimy and, yeah, still smelly.
  • Then I chopped it up into smaller pieces. Smaller chunks make process easier.
  • I grabbed my big mixing bowl and dumped the tripe in.
  • To make the patties a bit more substantial, I added some ground beef. You could probably use other ground meats too, like turkey or chicken, depending on what your dog likes.
  • I also threw in some finely chopped veggies – carrots and zucchini. Gotta sneak those greens in somehow!
  • Then I mixed everything together with my hands. It was a bit squishy, but you gotta get in there and make sure it's all combined.

Forming the Patties

Once everything was mixed, I started forming the patties. I made them about the size of my palm, but you can make them bigger or smaller depending on your dog's size. I laid them out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. This made it easier to freeze them later.

Freezing and Feeding

I popped the baking sheet into the freezer for a few hours until the patties were solid. Then I transferred them to a freezer bag. This way, I can just take out a couple at a time when I need them.

When it was time to feed Max, I thawed a patty in the fridge overnight. He was a little hesitant at first, probably because of the smell, but once he took a bite, he gobbled it down! Success!

It's been a few weeks now, and Max seems to be doing great on the tripe patties. His digestion seems better, and he's definitely got more energy. It was a bit of a messy process, but seeing him enjoy his food and thrive makes it all worthwhile. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a healthy, natural food option for your dog!
