So, I’ve got this new puppy, the cutest little furball you’ve ever seen. And of course, the first big decision after bringing him home was what to name him. I wanted something special, something with a bit of flair. That’s when I thought, why not an Italian name? It just sounds so sophisticated, you know?

I started by brainstorming all things Italian. Food, places, famous people… you name it. I even dug out my old Italian phrasebook from that trip to Rome a few years back. It was a fun trip down memory lane, but also super helpful.

Then I hit the internet, because where else do you go for inspiration these days? I searched for lists of popular Italian names, cute ones, funny ones, the whole nine yards. I even found some websites that let you filter names by meaning, which was kind of cool. I wanted a name that would not just sound good but also fit my little guy’s personality.

After compiling a massive list, I started narrowing it down. I said each name out loud, tried it with different tones of voice, you know, like I’d be calling him in the park or scolding him for chewing on my shoes. Some names just didn’t feel right, others sounded too much like commands. It’s a trickier process than you’d think!

  • Aldo: I considered it, but it felt too old-fashioned for my playful pup.

  • Enzo: This one was a strong contender, but a bit too common.

  • Romeo: Seemed a bit too on-the-nose, plus I didn’t want him to be too much of a ladies’ man.

I also asked my friends and family for their opinions. I even posted a poll on my social media with my top five picks. Some of the suggestions were hilarious. My cousin kept pushing for “Spaghetti,” which, to be fair, is pretty adorable, but I was going for something a little more… dignified.

The Big Reveal

Finally, after days of deliberation, I made my decision. I settled on the name… Luca! It’s got a nice ring to it, it’s easy to pronounce, and it just seems to fit him perfectly. Plus, it means “bringer of light,” and he definitely brightens up my days. So, there you have it, the story of how I found the perfect Italian name for my dog. It was quite the journey, but totally worth it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear Luca getting into something he shouldn’t…
