Okay, so the other day I was browsing, and I saw this cute picture of a dog covering its eyes with its paws. And I was like, "I gotta try that with my dog, Buddy!" So, here's how it all went down.

Getting Started

First, I needed to get Buddy in the mood. He's a golden retriever, pretty chill, but he does love his treats. So, I grabbed his favorite, beef-flavored treats – that's the key!

  • Called Buddy over. He came running, tail wagging, the usual.
  • Had him sit. Easy peasy. He's a pro at "sit."

The Tricky Part

Now, this is where it got a little… interesting. I tried to gently place his paws over his eyes. Yeah, that didn't work. He just looked at me like I was crazy. Gave me that classic, confused dog look.

So, plan B. I held a treat just above his head, a little out of reach. Then, I started saying, "Cover your eyes, Buddy! Cover your eyes!" while making the motion myself, you know, putting my hands over my own eyes. I probably looked ridiculous, but hey, I was committed.

The Learning Curve

He tilted his head, gave me a couple of woofs, but no paw action. I kept at it. Treat above his head, repeating the command, showing him the motion. It took a few tries, maybe five or six, and a good handful of treats. We had a few almost-moments where he lifted a paw, but it was more like he was trying to reach the treat, not cover his eyes.

Success! (Sort Of)

Finally, I changed my tactic a bit, i put the treat in my left han and used my rigth hand to slightly, buddy's paw. he get one paw up, near his face! I immediately gave him the treat and tons of praise, "Good boy, Buddy! Good boy!" Then, I quickly did it again, encouraging him, and... boom! He lifted both paws, for like, a split second, but it was enough! He covered his eyes!

It wasn't perfect. It wasn't that picture-perfect pose I saw online, but he did it! I snapped a photo as fast as I could. It's a bit blurry, but you can totally see him with his paws up, kinda near his eyes.

Final Thoughts

It's all about patience, and having some really good treats. And maybe, accepting that your dog's version of "covering eyes" might be a little… unique. But hey, that's what makes it fun, right? We had a good laugh, and Buddy got extra treats, so it was a win-win.
