Female English Springer Spaniel Dog Names: What are popular?
Okay, so we decided to get an English Springer Spaniel. Great dogs, loads of energy, lovely nature. But then came the hard part – picking a name. It sounds easy, but man, it took some doing.

First off, I just spent time watching the little guy. You know, see what his personality was like straight out of the gate. Was he bold? Shy? A complete goofball? Springers are often bouncy, and this one was no exception, practically vibrating with excitement. So, I thought, maybe something energetic?
My First Thoughts & Scribbles
I grabbed a notepad, seriously, just an old pad lying around. Started jotting down anything that came to mind. Some were based on his looks – he had these great liver patches, so maybe something earthy? Names like:
- Patch (Too obvious, maybe?)
- Rusty
- Copper
- Forest
Others were just random sounds I liked, or names I'd heard before. Didn't filter much at this stage, just got them down on paper. Looked a bit like a mess, to be honest.
Digging Around for Ideas
Then I did what everyone does, I guess. Went online. Looked at lists of "Springer Spaniel Names". Some were okay, lots felt kinda generic. Saw names related to their hunting background, like Hunter or Chase. Considered those for a bit. Thought about famous Springers, but couldn't really think of any off the top of my head that felt right.
I also thought about names from places we like, or characters from books, but nothing really clicked immediately. It felt like trying on clothes that weren't quite the right size.
Testing the Waters
The next step was crucial. I started actually saying some names out loud. You gotta see how it feels to call the dog, right? You'll be yelling it across the park soon enough. So, I'd try calling him, "Here, Rusty! Come on, boy!" or "Forest, wanna play?".
It's funny how some names just sound better than others. Some felt clumsy, others just didn't seem to fit the little whirlwind tearing around the living room. I watched to see if he reacted differently to certain sounds, though at that age, he pretty much reacted to any noise hoping it meant food or fun.
Making the Shortlist
After a few days of this, I had maybe five or six names that felt like possibilities. We talked about them as a family. Threw out the ones nobody really liked. We wanted something that wasn't too common, but also not so weird people would constantly ask "What did you say?".

Practicality mattered too. Needed to be easy to say, preferably two syllables – seems easier for dogs to pick up on, I reckon. And definitely nothing that sounded like a command, like "Kit" sounding like "Sit". That'd just be confusing.
The Final Pick
In the end, we settled on "Finn". Why Finn? Well, it just felt right. It's short, easy to call, doesn't sound like any commands. It has a nice, friendly vibe, kind of Irish or Scottish, which felt fitting for a sprightly dog. We tried it out for a day, calling him Finn, and it just stuck. He seemed to perk up to it (or maybe he was just happy for the attention!).
So yeah, that was the process. A bit of watching, a bit of random brainstorming, some searching, testing them out loud, and finally just going with the gut feeling. Took a little while, but we got there. Pick something you like saying, 'cause you'll be saying it a lot!
