Easy Chew: Soft Dry Dog Food for Small Dogs with Bad Teeth.

Okay, so my little buddy, a tiny little dog, started having some trouble with his teeth. It was a real bummer, seeing him struggle to eat his regular kibble. It broke my heart, you know? He’s getting up there in years, and those teeth just aren’t what they used to be. So, I had to do something about it.

First thing I did was look up what I could do. I mean, he’s always been a dry food kind of guy, and I wasn’t sure what my options were. Turns out, there’s a bunch of stuff you can do to make dry food softer. Who knew?

What did I do?

  • Tried soaking his kibble in warm water. I figured this would soften it up a bit. I let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, and it did get softer, like mushy cereal. He seemed to like it okay, but it wasn’t a perfect solution.
  • Mixed in some broth. Low-sodium chicken broth, to be exact. This made it even softer and, I guess, tastier. He seemed to enjoy this more. I still had to supervise him though, some of the kibble was still hard, and I didn’t want him to choke.
  • Looked into some special soft dry foods. I read that there are kibbles specifically made for older dogs with bad teeth. They’re supposed to be easier to chew. Found one from Hill’s Science Diet, the Adult 11+ Small & Mini Chicken Meal one. Decided to give it a shot.
  • Also I found out about wet food like Pedigree Chopped Ground Dinner. But I really wanted to stick with dry food as much as possible.

So, after a bit of trial and error, I think we’ve finally found something that works. He’s been doing great on the Hill’s Science Diet soft kibble. It’s designed for small dogs, which is perfect for my little fella. He gobbles it right up, no problem. And, honestly, he seems happier. It’s such a relief to see him enjoying his food again, without any pain or discomfort.

It was a bit of a process, but seeing my dog happy and healthy makes it all worth it. If you’re going through something similar with your furry friend, don’t give up! There are definitely options out there to make mealtime easier for them.
