Okay, so my dog, he's a picky eater, and giving him pills? Forget about it. He'd sniff out those chicken-flavored pill pockets from a mile away and turn his nose up. I got tired of wrestling with him, so I figured, "I'm gonna make my own, minus the chicken."
Homemade Pill Pockets
First, I gathered my ingredients. I needed something sticky, something tasty (to him, at least), and something to bind it all together. I went with:
- Peanut butter (the natural kind, no xylitol!)
- Plain Yogurt
- Oat flour (I just blended up some rolled oats until they were powdery)
I started by mixing about a tablespoon of peanut butter with a tablespoon of yogurt in a small bowl.
Then added the oat flour, a little at a time, until I got a dough-like consistency. It was still a bit sticky, but I could roll it into little balls.
I tested it out by rolling a tiny bit around one of his smaller pills. It worked. Then completely covered the pill, making sure there were no sneaky edges sticking out.
