Okay, so today was all about observing my dog with his toys. I noticed he was really going at this one particular plushie, just nibbling and nibbling away. It got me thinking, what's the deal with this behavior?

First, I grabbed a few different toys - a rope, a rubber bone, and the infamous plushie. I wanted to see if he'd nibble on all of them, or just the one.

The Experiment Begins

I tossed the rope first. He chased it, brought it back, and then proceeded to...you guessed it, gnaw on it a bit. Not quite the same as the plushie, though. More of a chewing action.

  • Rope: Chewing, tugging, a little nibbling.

Next, I threw the rubber bone. He loved that! Bounced around, chewed on it like crazy, but again, not really nibbling.

  • Rubber Bone: Hard chewing, bouncing, carrying.

Plushie Time

Finally, I presented the plushie. And there it was. He immediately started that gentle, repetitive nibbling. Like he was grooming it or something. He just kept going and going at the seam on plush toys ear, totally focused.

  • Plushie: Intense, focused nibbling, some gentle mouthing.

I observed my dog's body language. He looks so relaxed. Tail wagging slow, ears relaxed, eyes half-closed. He was in his happy place.

I also took the time to inspect the plush toy for small parts that my dog might accidentally eat. It is very dangerous. Fortunately it is safe.

So, after watching him for a good while, I think it's a comfort thing. Maybe it reminds him of being a puppy? It definitely seems to soothe him. It's pretty cute to watch, as long as he doesn't rip the thing to shreds!
