Dog Constipation? Find the Right Miralax Dosage
Okay, here's my blog post about figuring out the right Miralax dosage for my dog:

So, my furry buddy, Buster, was having a bit of a… ahem… "stoppage" issue. You know, the kind where he's straining, looking miserable, and nothing's happening. I felt so bad for the little guy! I did some quick searching online about constipation, and Miralax kept popping up.
My Miralax Experiment for Buster's Constipation
First things first, I did not just randomly dump a bunch of Miralax into Buster's food. Nope. I called my vet first, I needed to check if it was even okay to give him Miralax, and what amount I can use.
The vet gave me a starting dosage which are:
- Small dogs (like under 20 pounds): Around 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon, once or twice a day.
- Medium dogs (20-50 pounds): About 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon, once or twice a day.
- Large dogs (over 50 pounds): 1/2 teaspoon to 3/4 teaspoon, once or twice a day.
My vet's a real stickler for details, so she emphasized a few things:
- Start small: I started the dosage with a lower dosage than recommended.
- Mix it well: I dumped the Miralax powder into Buster's wet food. I added a little extra water and mixed everything up.
- Watch and wait: The most important part! I kept a close eye on Buster.
I started with a quarter of a teaspoon that mix with his food in the morning. He scarfed it down no problem (he's not a picky eater, thankfully!).
The next day… still nothing. So, I gave him another quarter teaspoon with his dinner. And… success! The next morning, Buster was back to his old self, doing his business with no problems. I was so relieved!
I'm definitely keeping Miralax on hand, just in case Buster has another "episode." But I'm also going to make sure he gets plenty of water and fiber in his diet to hopefully prevent it from happening again.
