Okay, so I finally got around to messing with that dog computer toy thing I was talking about last week. Here's the lowdown.

The Idea: Basically, I wanted to see if I could rig up something that my dog could actually interact with to get treats. Not just a puzzle toy, but something a little more... high-tech, haha.

Getting Started: First, I needed a computer, but not a real computer. Grabbed an old Raspberry Pi I had lying around. Then, a big, chunky button – the kind kids use for toys. Figured that'd be easiest for paws. Also snagged a servo motor, some wires, and a little container to hold the treats.

The Build: This is where it got a little messy. Started by hooking up the button to the Raspberry Pi. I used some simple Python code to detect when the button was pressed. Took a bit of trial and error to get the wiring right, but eventually, the Pi was registering the button presses.

Next, I tackled the treat dispenser. Mounted the servo motor to the container so it could swing open a little door. More Python code to make the servo spin when the button was pressed. I spent a good hour tweaking the servo angles to get the right amount of treats dispensed each time. Didn't want to overfeed the poor guy!

The Code: The code itself is pretty basic. Nothing fancy. Just a loop that waits for a button press, then triggers the servo. I can share the code if anyone's actually interested, but it's probably not worth it. It's really just duct tape and willpower holding it all together, code-wise.

The Testing: This was the fun part. Showed my dog the button, and after some encouragement (and a few strategically placed treats), he figured out that pushing the button meant more treats! It was hilarious watching him paw at it over and over. He definitely got the hang of it faster than I expected.

The Problems: Of course, it wasn't all smooth sailing. The first problem was the button itself. My dog got a little too enthusiastic and started smashing it. I had to reinforce it with some extra plastic to keep it from breaking. Also, the treat dispenser got jammed a couple of times. I think the treats were too big. I switched to smaller ones, and that seemed to fix the issue.

The Result

All in all, it was a fun little project. My dog loves his new "computer," and I learned a thing or two about servo motors and Python. Plus, it keeps him entertained for a few minutes each day, which is a win in my book.

What's Next: I'm thinking about adding a camera and some image recognition so it only dispenses treats when he's pressing the button. Otherwise, my cat will figure it out and hog all the treats!
