Dog ate grass with weed killer? Immediate steps to take now!

So, the other day, I noticed my dog, Max, munching on some grass in the backyard. No big deal, dogs eat grass sometimes, right? But then I remembered I had sprayed weed killer on that patch of lawn a couple of days ago. Panic started to set in.

Dog ate grass with weed killer? Immediate steps to take now!

What I Did

  • First, I immediately pulled Max away from the grass. He wasn't too happy about that, but tough luck, buddy.
  • Next, I tried to get a good look in his mouth to see if I could see any obvious signs of the grass or, you know, weed killer residue. It was hard to tell.
  • I grabbed the bottle of weed killer and read the label, looking for any emergency instructions or warnings. There was a number for poison control, so that was my next step.
  • I called the poison control hotline for pets. While on hold, I gathered some info: Max's weight, the approximate time he ate the grass, and the name of the weed killer.
  • The person on the line was super helpful. They asked me a bunch of questions and then told me to monitor Max for certain symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or difficulty breathing.
  • It has been a nervous several hours of closely watch my dog's behavior after that.

Luckily, Max seems to be doing okay. He's acting like his usual goofy self, so I'm hoping he didn't ingest enough of the weed killer to cause any serious problems. But I'm definitely keeping a close eye on him for the next couple of days.

Lesson learned: I'm going to be way more careful about where I spray weed killer in the future, and maybe I'll even look into some pet-safe alternatives. It's just not worth the stress!
