Diamond Dog Food Reviews 2024:What you should know!

Okay, so I've been meaning to do this for a while, and today's the day! We're talking about Diamond dog food. I've switched foods a few times over the years, trying to find the best fit for my furry buddy, Max. He's a golden retriever, super active, and has a bit of a sensitive stomach. So, choosing the right food is a big deal.

Diamond Dog Food Reviews 2024:What you should know!

First, I hit up the internet. I spent a good couple of hours just reading. I checked out forums, went to some of those big pet store websites and read customer feedback, I even looked at some "expert" blog reviews (take those with a grain of salt, you know?).

I learned that Diamond has a bunch of different lines – Diamond Naturals, Diamond Pro89, Diamond Care... It's kinda overwhelming! I mainly focused on the Naturals line because it seemed like a good balance of quality and price.

  • Diamond Naturals: Seems like their most popular line, focuses on "natural" ingredients.
  • Diamond Pro89: Higher protein, geared towards super active dogs. I thought about this one, but Max isn't that crazy active.
  • Diamond Care: Specialized formulas for things like sensitive skin and weight management.

Next, I dug into the ingredient lists. I looked at several, like the Chicken & Rice and the Lamb & Rice formulas. Here's what I was looking for, mainly:

  • A named meat source as the first ingredient. This is important! You want to see "chicken," "lamb," or "beef," not "meat by-product."
  • Whole grains. Things like brown rice and barley are good. I try to avoid too much corn or wheat, because Max has a sensitive tummy.
  • No artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. This is a must-have for me.

The ingredient lists looked pretty good! Chicken or lamb was always the first ingredient, and I saw a lot of whole grains and veggies. There were some ingredients I wasn't 100% thrilled about, like "chicken meal", but I didn't find anything too horrifying.

I bought my bag from a physical store, and it was not a very big one. The purpose of my purchase was to try it out, and so far so good!

The Real Test: Giving it to Max

Okay, so all the research in the world doesn't matter if your dog won't eat it, right? I started by mixing a little bit of the Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice with Max's old food. Gradually, over a week, I increased the Diamond and decreased the old food. This is important to avoid upsetting his stomach.

He gobbled it up! No hesitation. And, even better, no digestive issues. His poops were solid (sorry, gotta be real!), and he seemed to have good energy levels. I also checked on his fur, and it was not different from before, still soft.

It is still to soon to judge, but the first impression is good!

So far, so good! I've been using Diamond Naturals for about a month now, and I'm pretty happy with it. Max seems to be doing great, and the price is reasonable. It's not the absolute cheapest food out there, but it's definitely not the most expensive either. For the quality, I think it's a good value.
