Constant Dry Heaving in Dogs: Why Is My Dog Dry Heaving So Much

Okay, so the other day, I noticed my dog, Buddy, was making these weird retching noises, like he was trying to throw up but nothing was coming out. It was freaking me out, so I started paying super close attention.

My Dog's Dry Heaving Adventure

First, I watched him like a hawk. I mean, I literally followed him around the house. I noticed he was doing it more after he ate or drank. That was my first clue.

• Checked his food and water bowls: I made sure they were clean, no weird smells or anything.
• Looked at his food: Same brand he's always eaten, no recent changes. But I did see he was gulping it down really fast.

Then, I started to get all these ideas in my head, bad, you know? I read a lot, and it is too scary. so I stop reading online.

I decided to try a few simple things first.

• I started giving him smaller meals, more often. Instead of two big meals, I split it into four smaller ones.
• I also got one of those slow-feeder bowls, the ones with the little maze things in them. It forces him to eat slower.
• I try to elevated his water bowl: I just put it on a little box.

And what！It actually worked! The dry heaving reduced. It did not completely get rid of it, but it is so much better.

I am still keeping my eyes on him, I don't let anything go, If it gets worse again, or if anything else seems off, I will take him to vet. But for now, I'm pretty happy I figured out a way to help him. Simple things are the best.
