Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting my dog trained for a while now. He’s a good boy, but a little, uh, enthusiastic, if you know what I mean. Jumping on guests, pulling on the leash like a sled dog, the whole nine yards. I finally decided to bite the bullet and look into dog training here in San Diego.

First, I started Googling. You know, the usual “dog training San Diego” and “dog training prices San Diego.” I wanted to get a feel for the different places and what they charged. Let me tell you, there are a lot of options out there. Bark Busters, Sit Stay Come, Wonder Dog Training, even the Humane Society has some classes. It was a little overwhelming, to be honest.

Then I checked out Yelp. Gotta see those reviews, right? Some places had amazing reviews, others, not so much. It seemed like prices varied a ton depending on what kind of training you wanted. Private lessons, group classes, board and train – it all adds up.

The Price Hunt

• Private Lessons: These seemed to be the most expensive, which makes sense. You’re getting that one-on-one attention. I saw prices ranging anywhere from, like, $80 to over $150 per session!
• Group Classes: These were more affordable, maybe $150 to $300 for a series of 5-6 classes. It’s a good way for your dog to socialize, too, which is a bonus.
• Board and Train: This is where they take your dog for a few weeks and do all the hard work for you. Definitely the priciest option, we’re talking thousands of dollars. I also saw some places, like Coastal Paws San Diego, offer dog boarding, which isn’t the same but still helpful if you need someone to watch your pup.

After a few days of browsing, I found a few places that sounded promising. Wonder Dog Training had great reviews, and it sounds like they are one of the top 10 best dog training places in San Diego! Also, the Humane Society and some local shelters offer free or low-cost classes, which is awesome if you’re on a budget. I learned that many dogs are given to shelters for behavioral issues, and maybe some good training will help. And someone on a forum said that trainers are so worth it and it can give some playtime socializing with other puppies.

I decided to call a couple of the places that caught my eye and got some quotes. Finest City Dog Training and Sit Stay Come Dog Training both seemed professional and knowledgeable. They asked me about my dog’s breed, age, and what kind of training I was looking for. It was good to actually talk to someone and get a feel for their approach.

Ultimately, I decided to go with group classes for now. It seemed like the best balance of price and effectiveness. Plus, I think my dog would enjoy the chance to play with other pups. I ended up booking a 6-week course with Toko Dogs, which had a good reputation and was reasonably priced. They have various training programs and prices. I am excited about this.
