Clavacillin for dogs 125 mg: What is it used for?

Okay, so my dog, Buster, he's a golden retriever, and he got this nasty ear infection. It was all red and inflamed, and he kept shaking his head and scratching. Poor guy was miserable. I took him to the vet, and after checking him out, the vet prescribed Clavacillin.

The vet told me the dosage would be 125 mg, twice a day. Now, I'm no vet, but I wanted to make sure I did this right. I double-checked everything with the vet before leaving.

Getting the Meds

  • First, I went to the pet pharmacy to pick up the prescription.
  • Made sure it clearly said "Clavacillin 125 mg" on the bottle.

Giving Buster the Medicine

This part was a little tricky at first. Buster's not a huge fan of pills. Here's what I did:

  • I hid the pill, wrapping one 125mg Clavacillin in a small piece of cheese. He loves cheese, so most of the time, he gobbles it right up.
  • If the cheese didn't work I will try a bit of peanut butter on a spoon. Just enough to hide the pill.
  • I made sure he swallowed it. Sometimes he'd try to spit it out, the sneaky little guy. I'd gently hold his snout closed for a few seconds and rub his throat until I saw him swallow.

Keeping Track

Because I needed to give him the meds twice a day, I set an alarm on my phone. Once in the morning, around 8 am, and again in the evening, around 8 pm. Consistency is key with antibiotics, the vet said.

Watching for Side Effects

The vet also warned me to watch out for any side effects, like vomiting or diarrhea. Luckily, Buster didn't have any problems. But I was still keeping a close eye on him, just in case.

The Results

After a few days, I started to see a big improvement. Buster's ear was less red, and he wasn't scratching as much. I continued giving him the Clavacillin for the full course, as prescribed by the vet, even after he seemed better. You gotta finish the whole thing to make sure the infection is completely gone, that is very important.

Now, Buster's ear is all healed up, and he's back to his happy, goofy self. I'm so glad I was able to help him feel better! It was a bit of a learning experience, but we got through it.
