Chicago dog sitting rates: How much should you budget?
Okay, so I needed to figure out how much it would cost to get someone to watch my dog, Max, while I was away on a business trip to Chicago. I've never really used a dog sitter before, usually relying on family, but this time, that wasn't an option.
Starting My Search
First, I started just by asking around. I hit up some friends, neighbors, and even posted on my local Facebook group. I got a few recommendations, some names of people who do dog sitting, but no real solid pricing info. Everyone was kind of vague, saying things like, "Oh, it depends on the size of the dog, how long you're gone, etc." which, okay, fair enough, but I needed some actual numbers!
Diving Deeper - Online Research
So, then I started checking online. It took quite a while to find any real numbers. I stumbled across all sorts of websites and apps.
Figuring Out the Numbers
Eventually, I found some information!
- Hourly Rate: It seemed like the going rate was somewhere around $16 bucks an hour. That seemed pretty reasonable to me.
- Weekly Rate: If I needed someone for a full week, assuming a regular work week, that would come out to around $650.
- Monthly Rate:For more extended trips, people are paying around $2114.
The Takeaway
After all that digging, I felt like I had a much better handle on the costs. It's not super cheap, but Max is worth it, of course! I'm still deciding on exactly who I'll go with, but at least now I know the general ballpark I'm playing in when it comes to Chicago dog sitting prices.
