Cat grass for dogs: Benefits and risks you should know!
So, I've got this super energetic pup, always digging in the yard, chewing on stuff he shouldn't. I heard about cat grass being good for, well, cats, but then I thought, "Hey, why not for dogs too?" Figured it might help with his digestion or at least give him something safe to munch on. So I started this little experiment.
Getting Started
First, I went to the local pet store. I mean, where else would you get cat grass, right? I grabbed a small kit – it had a little container, some soil, and the seeds. Super simple, nothing fancy. I remember thinking, "This better be worth it."
Back home, I followed the instructions on the box. I dumped the soil into the container, sprinkled the seeds on top, and watered it all. The instructions said to keep it moist, not soaked, so I was pretty careful about that. I didn't want a swamp, just happy little grass sprouts.
The Waiting Game
Then came the waiting. Seriously, it felt like forever! I checked on it every day, sometimes twice. My dog, Buster, was pretty curious too. He'd sniff around the container, probably wondering what the heck I was up to. After about three or four days, I saw tiny green shoots. Victory!
- Day 1: Planted the seeds.
- Day 3: First tiny sprouts appeared!
- Day 7: Grass was a couple of inches tall.
Buster's Verdict
Once the grass was a decent height, I put the container down for Buster. He sniffed it cautiously at first, then took a tentative nibble. Then another. And another! He seemed to really like it. I watched him chomp away, pretty happy with myself. He wasn't digging in the yard as much, and he seemed a bit calmer overall. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but hey, it seemed to be working.
Keeping it Going
I kept watering the grass, and it kept growing. Buster continued to enjoy his little snack bar. I did notice that after a while, the grass started to look a bit sad, so I figured I'd need to plant a new batch soon. But overall, it was a pretty successful experiment. A cheap, easy way to give my dog something healthy to chew on and maybe, just maybe, save my flowerbeds.
