Best Senior Dog Food? See How Instinct Stacks Up Against the Rest

Okay, so my old boy Max started getting a bit picky with his food. He's a golden retriever, pushing 13, so I figured it was time to look into senior-specific options. I did some digging and decided to give Instinct Senior Dog Food a shot. Here's how it went.

The Shopping Trip

First, I headed to the pet store. I spent a good while just staring at the shelves. So. Many. Choices! I finally found the Instinct section, and they had a few different senior recipes. I grabbed the one with chicken, mainly because Max always loved chicken.

Reading the Fine Print

Back home, before even opening the bag, I sat down and really read the ingredients list. I'm no expert, but I wanted to see what was actually in this stuff. It seemed pretty good – lots of protein, some glucosamine and chondroitin (which I've heard is good for older joints), and no weird fillers that I could see.

The First Bowl

Okay, time for the taste test! I poured some into Max's bowl. He sniffed at it cautiously (he's always been a bit dramatic). Then, he started eating! He didn't gobble it down like he used to with his old food, but he steadily munched his way through the whole serving. Success!

The Next Few Weeks

  • Week 1: Max seemed to have a bit more pep in his step. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part, but he was definitely more eager for his walks.
  • Week 2: His poops were...well, better. Less messy, more solid. Sorry for the TMI, but it's a big deal for dog owners!
  • Week 3: I noticed his coat looked a little shinier. He was also shedding a bit less, which is always a bonus.

The Verdict

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the Instinct Senior Dog Food. Max eats it consistently, he seems to be doing well on it, and I feel good about the ingredients. It's a bit pricier than some other brands, but for my old buddy, it's worth it. I definitely plan to keep him on it.
