Best Food Dog Toys of 2024 (Reviews and Buying Guide).
Okay, so my dog, he's a super chewer. Like, destroys everything in seconds. I was getting tired of buying new toys every week, so I decided to try making some food-dispensing toys myself. Figured it would keep him busy and save me some money.
Gathering Supplies
First, I raided my recycling bin. I grabbed a few empty plastic water bottles and some cardboard boxes of different sizes. I also found an old, thick rope that I knew would be perfect.
Making the Bottle Toy
- I took one of the water bottles and washed it out really well.
- Then, I poked some holes in it, big enough for kibble to fall out, but not too big that it would all spill out at once.
- I filled the bottle with some of his dry food and screwed the cap back on tight.
Making the Box Toy
- I cut the cardboard box, made a few holes.
- I put dog's dry food inside, closed it use tape.
Testing it Out First up, I made the bottle toy. Took one of the plastic bottles, washed it out, and poked a bunch of holes in it with scissors, making sure they weren't too big. Then I dumped some of his kibble inside and screwed the cap back on really tight.
Making the Rope Toy
- For the rope toy, I simply tied some knots in the old rope, making sure they were super tight.
- I smeared a little bit of peanut butter (xylitol-free, of course!) in between the knots to make it extra enticing.
The Verdict
He loved them! The bottle toy was a big hit. He spent a good hour rolling it around, trying to get all the kibble out. The box toy was also great, and he has to work for a while to get all the dry food out. The rope toy was perfect for when he wanted to chew on something tougher, and the peanut butter kept him interested.
I have try serveral food dog toys, all above is my favorite.
Honestly, it was a win-win. He got some new, engaging toys, and I got to save some money and recycle some stuff. Definitely going to keep experimenting with different designs!
