Okay, so, I’ve got this dog, right? A real handful. Love him to bits, but the barking? Drove me nuts. So I started looking into dog training, and that’s when I bumped into this thing called Bark Busters.

First, I googled “dog trainers near me,” and a bunch of stuff popped up. Then I saw Bark Busters and their whole “home dog training” angle. Seemed interesting, so I dug a little deeper. Their website was alright, explained their methods a bit. Basically, they come to your house and work with your dog in their own environment.

But, the big question: how much does it cost? They were not super upfront about it on their site. There were different packages, tailored to the dog’s issues. My dog’s main problem was barking, but he was also a bit of a puller on the leash, and don’t even get me started on his “selective” listening!

So I called them up. The person on the phone was nice enough, asked a lot of questions about my dog’s breed, age, and the specific problems I was having. Then we got down to brass tacks—the price. They explained it’s not a fixed cost, it depends on your dog, your location, and a bunch of other factors.

They gave me a quote for an initial session, and it was a bit more than I was expecting. I’m not gonna lie, I hesitated. The initial session was going to be around 2.5 hours, and they said they would also offer support for a year, in my case, it will be about $600. Seemed like a lot of money, but I was desperate. The constant barking was stressing me and the neighbors out.

My Decision

• I weighed the pros and cons. Cheaper options were out there, for sure. Group classes, other trainers, even some DIY stuff online.
• But, the idea of someone coming to my home and working with my dog directly, that was appealing. Plus, the year-long support sounded good.
• So, I took the plunge. I booked the initial session with Bark Busters. I figured, if it works, it’s worth the money. If not, well, at least I tried.

The trainer came to my house a few days later, and we got to work. It was interesting, to say the least. She showed me how to communicate with my dog using body language and voice tones, not treats or harsh punishments. We practiced different exercises, and I could see a difference in my dog’s behavior even during that first session. He was still barking, of course, but it was less frantic, less constant. He is also much better now.

I’ve had a few follow-up sessions since then, and I have to say, I’m pretty happy with the results. It’s not perfect, my dog still has his moments, but the barking is way down, and he’s generally more well-behaved.

So, was Bark Busters worth the price? For me, yeah, I think it was. It’s definitely an investment, but a quieter house and a more relaxed dog? That’s priceless.
