Awesome Lord of the Rings Dog Names for Your New Pet.
Okay, so I've been thinking about getting a new puppy, and I'm a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan. Naturally, I started brainstorming dog names inspired by the books and movies. I wanted to share my process and the list I came up with, maybe it'll help someone else out there!

My Brainstorming Session
First, I grabbed a notebook and pen – gotta go old school sometimes. Then, I made a big pot of coffee, because, well, priorities. I started by just free-writing any character, place, or even object that came to mind from the Lord of the Rings.
I jotted down things like:
- Frodo
- Gandalf
- Aragorn
- Hobbiton
- Evenstar
- Anduril
I did not stop until I filled up two whole pages. Then, I started to research how these names were used for dogs.
Narrowing It Down
I started categorizing it down. Some names, I realized, were a bit too long or clunky for a dog. "Eärendil," is very nice, but imagine yelling that across the dog park! Others, like "Sauron," are maybe not the vibe I'm going for with a fluffy friend. I want a good boy/girl, not a dark lord.
So, I started crossing some names off the list, and then I grouped them into some favorites, to find the ones that I thought had a good ring to them, fit different dog personalities, and were just plain cool.
My Top Picks(Finally!)
After all that thinking and crossing-out, then grouping again, and drinking all the coffee, Here's what I ended up with some top favorite options that I am thinking:
- Frodo:Because, a classic! Good for a loyal, brave little dog.
- Pippin:For a goofy, playful pup.
- Arwen:For a beautiful, graceful girl dog.
- Shadowfax:I love this for a fast, majestic dog – maybe a greyhound?
- Bilbo:Another good one for a small, adventurous dog.
- Gimli:Perfect for a stocky, strong-willed dog!
So that I got there. I think I like Frodo most for my new puppy. I think it is meaningful and simple to call out loud.
Hopefully, my little adventure in dog-name brainstorming helps someone else out! It was fun for me, at least. Gotta get back to puppy-proofing the house now…wish me luck!
