Why Does My Dog Bury Her Head Into Me? Simple Reasons Explained For You!
So, my dog, she’s a weirdo, but I love her. Lately, I started noticing this thing she does, and it’s kinda cute but also got me scratching my head. She keeps burying her head into me, like, really digging in there. At first, I was started to take notice of it, and thought, “Okay, maybe she’s just being affectionate?” But it kept happening, and I got curious.
I started paying more attention to when she does it. I noticed she tends to do it more when I come home after being out for a while. Could it be a “welcome back” thing? Then, I observed that it often happens when we’re just chilling on the couch, and she’ll just snuggle up and bury her head in my lap or under my arm. Maybe it’s a comfort thing?
I decided to do a little experiment. I would be gone for a couple of hours, come back, and see what she would do. Sure enough, she ran to the door, tail wagging, and after a few jumps and excited barks, she buried her head in my leg. Alright, so it’s definitely a greeting, at least partly.
- Day 1: Left for 2 hours, came back, head bury.
- Day 2: Left for 4 hours, came back, intense head bury.
- Day 3: Quick trip to the store, 30 minutes, still a head bury, but shorter.
Then I tried something else. I sat on the couch, pretending to be stressed, sighing a lot, that kind of thing. And guess what? She came over and did the head bury thing, but this time she stayed there longer, like she was trying to comfort me. It was so sweet!
I also observed that she sometimes does this with my other family members, but it was not as frequent as she did to me. I guess that I am her favorite person! This makes me really happy!
So, what did I conclude from all this? Well, it seems like my dog buries her head into me for a few reasons:
- Greeting: She’s excited to see me and it’s her way of saying “Welcome back!”
- Affection: She loves me and wants to be close.
- Comfort: She senses when I’m stressed and wants to make me feel better.
- Scent: Maybe she just likes my smell, or maybe she’s trying to cover me in hers so everyone knows I’m taken.
The final results
It’s a mix of things, and honestly, it makes me feel pretty special. It’s like she’s saying, “You’re my human, and I’ve got your back.” It’s a quirky little thing, but it really strengthens our bond. I love that dog!
