Whats a Good Alternative to iams? dog food comparable to iams

Okay, so I’ve been on this journey to find a good dog food that’s kinda like Iams but maybe a bit different. My dog, he’s a picky eater, but he did okay on Iams. But I just wanted to see what else is out there, you know?

So, I started digging around, asking other dog owners, reading stuff online. I realized it’s a jungle out there with dog food brands! But it seemed like people kept mentioning a few names that might be worth checking out, like Diamond, Eukanuba, and Purina.

Diamond

First, I looked into Diamond. I found out that they are, on average, a bit cheaper than Iams. And honestly, saving a few bucks is always nice. I dove into their dry food options and was surprised that their cost was a little lower. That’s a win.

Eukanuba and Purina

Then there’s Eukanuba. I read some comparisons between Iams and Eukanuba, but it seemed that each brand has its strengths and weaknesses. I compared protein levels, ingredients, the whole nine yards. It is just a very difficult choice! Purina, especially Purina Pro Plan, was another one that popped up a lot. It’s a bit pricier than Iams, but many people were talking about the quality. I also checked out Purina ONE, which is apparently in the same ballpark price-wise as Iams and owned by the same company as Purina Pro Plan. Purina dog chow is also a great option to consider.

After looking into it a lot, I was still on the fence about switching, because, honestly, my dog was doing fine on Iams, and the vet said it was good, one of the best food. But I did want to try something new, just in case there was something even better out there for my pup.

I decided to try a small bag of Diamond, just to see how my dog would react. I started mixing it with his Iams, slowly increasing the new food and decreasing the old food. This is important, by the way, so your dog doesn’t get an upset stomach.

Guess what? He loved it! No tummy troubles, and he seemed to enjoy the taste.

So, that’s where I am now. I’m still not 100% sure if we’ll stick with Diamond forever, but for now, it’s a good alternative. I might try Purina ONE down the line, just to compare. It’s a bit of a trial-and-error process. But, I think, I am happy with this little experiment. I mean that I found something that my dog likes and is also good for him.
