Chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Food Recall: What You Need to Know to Keep Your Dog Safe

Okay, so I’ve been seeing some buzz online about a recall on Chicken Soup for the Soul dog food. I feed this to my own pup, Buster, so naturally, I got a little freaked out. Time to do some digging.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Food Recall: What You Need to Know to Keep Your Dog Safe

First thing, I grabbed the bag of food we had open. It was the adult light formula, and I checked the production code and the “best before” date. This was important because not all of their food was affected, apparently. Thankfully, our bag was fine. But I wanted to know more.

I started by looking up the FDA website. They usually have information on this kind of stuff. Sure enough, there was a release there. It confirmed that there was indeed a recall for some of the Chicken Soup for the Soul dog food. Not mine, but some of them.

What I Found

Apparently, the issue was with one single bag of their food, the company found Salmonella. I guess that’s some kind of bacteria that can make dogs sick. They said they were recalling a bunch of food just to be safe. The dates were in a few months of 2012 if I remember it right.

  • Confirmed: There was a recall.
  • Reason: Potential Salmonella contamination.
  • Impact: Only certain batches affected.

I also checked a few pet food review sites. They had articles about the recall too, with pictures of the affected products and more details. It seems like this isn’t the first time the company has had a recall, which is a bit concerning, to be honest. They had another recall back in 2012, according to my research.

So, what did I do? Well, since our food wasn’t part of the recall, I didn’t have to throw it out. But I did make a note to keep a closer eye on Buster, just in case. I also decided to sign up for email alerts from the FDA, so I can stay on top of any future recalls. Better safe than sorry, right? This whole thing was a good reminder to always be aware of what’s going on with the food I give my dog. It’s not something I usually think about, but it’s definitely important. I even took a picture of the bag with dates so I remember and can ask my wife to do the same.
