Dealing with Dog Ear Infections? Learn How Oti Pack E Can Help Your Pup!

Okay, so yesterday I tried to deal with my dog's, like, really gross ear infection. The vet told me I needed an "otic pack," and honestly, I had no clue what that even meant. Figured it couldn't be that hard, right?

Getting Ready

First, I gathered everything. I mean, everything. Vet gave me this special ear cleaner and the actual otic pack stuff, which looked kind of like a thick ointment. I also grabbed a bunch of cotton balls, some treats (because, bribery), and a towel, just in case things got messy. My dog, Buster, he's a Golden Retriever, was eyeing me suspiciously the whole time.

The Cleaning Process

  • I started by trying to get Buster to sit still. Key word: trying. Treats helped a lot here.
  • Then I squirted some of that ear cleaner into his ear. He shook his head like crazy, and I'm pretty sure some of it ended up on the wall. Oops.
  • I used the cotton balls to gently wipe out the gunk. He seemed to hate this part the least, surprisingly.

Applying the Otic Pack

This is where things got tricky. The vet showed me how to do it, but doing it on a wiggly dog is a whole different story.

  • I took the otic pack tube and carefully inserted the nozzle into Buster's ear canal. I had to be super gentle, because I didn't want to hurt him.
  • Then I squeezed the tube to get the medication in there. I think I got most of it in the right place. Maybe.
  • I massaged the base of his ear, making these squishy noises to make sure it spread through.

The Aftermath

Buster was NOT thrilled. He spent the next hour shaking his head and trying to rub his ear on everything. I felt a little bad, but I know it's for his own good. I gave him lots of extra treats and cuddles afterward.

The whole thing was kind of a mess, and I'm pretty sure I got more of the ear cleaner on myself than in his ear. But, hey, I did it! Hopefully, Buster's ear will be feeling better soon. Next time, I might just ask the vet to do it, though.
