Okay, so I've been meaning to switch up my dog's food for a while now. He's been getting a little, shall we say, fluffy around the edges, and his coat hasn't been looking its best. I'd heard good things about Halo dry dog food, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Here's how it went down.

The Shopping Trip

First things first, I had to actually get the food. I hit up my local pet store – you know, the one with the slightly-too-enthusiastic employees and the constant smell of dog treats? Yeah, that one.

I found the Halo section, and wow, they have a lot of options. Different flavors, different life stages, different… everything. It was a little overwhelming, to be honest.

Making the Choice

After staring at the bags for a good ten minutes (and probably looking like a complete weirdo), I finally decided on the Halo Holistic Chicken & Chicken Liver recipe for adult dogs. My dog seems to like chicken, and the "holistic" part sounded fancy and healthy, so… why not?

The Transition

I know you're not supposed to just switch dog food cold turkey, so I started mixing the Halo in with his old food. I did about 25% Halo, 75% old food for a few days. He didn't seem to notice, or at least, he didn't complain.

  • Day 1-3: 25% Halo, 75% old food. No issues.
  • Day 4-6: 50% Halo, 50% old food. Still good. He even seemed a little more excited about mealtime.
  • Day 7-9: 75% Halo, 25% old food. Poop is looking normal (yes, I inspected it, don't judge).
  • Day 10 onwards: 100% Halo. We've made it!

The Results (So Far)

It's been about two weeks now since we fully switched to Halo. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical at first, but I'm actually starting to see a difference.

His coat definitely looks shinier. It's not like, magically gleaming or anything, but it's noticeably healthier. He also seems to have a bit more energy. We've been going on longer walks, and he's not dragging his butt as much by the end.

As for the weight… well, it's still early days, but I think he might be slimming down a little. I'm not weighing him or anything, but his waist seems a tiny bit more defined. Maybe. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. Time will tell!

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the Halo dry dog food so far. It wasn't the cheapest option, but if it helps my dog be healthier and happier, it's worth it. I'll keep you guys updated on his progress!
