Taste of the Wild: Daily Feeding Guide & Chart for All Breeds
Okay, so I've been messing around with Taste of the Wild dog food for my furry buddy, Max. It's been a bit of a journey figuring out the right amount to feed him, so I figured I'd share my experience and what I've learned. Hopefully, this helps some of you out there going through the same thing!

First, I grabbed a bag of Taste of the Wild – the Pacific Stream formula, because Max loves fish. The bag has this feeding chart on the back, but honestly, it's a bit...general. It gives you a range based on weight, but it doesn't really consider things like activity level or age, which I think are pretty important.
Starting Out (and Making Mistakes)
Initially, I just followed the chart's recommendation for Max's weight. He's a 60-pound lab mix, so I started with the amount suggested for that weight range. Big mistake! He started gaining weight pretty quickly. He was turning into a little sausage!
I realized I needed to do some more digging. I did read on some random forums, and there were some mixed suggestions. It was kinda confusing, so I decided to combine things.
My Adjusted Approach
This is what I've been doing, and it seems to be working much better:
- Considered Activity Level: Max is pretty active. We go for walks, play fetch, and he tears around the yard like a maniac. So, I knew he needed more than a couch potato dog.
- Started Lower: Instead of going straight to the middle of the recommended range on the bag, I started at the lower end.
- Watched His Body Condition: This is key! I learned to feel his ribs. You should be able to feel them with a slight layer of fat, but they shouldn't be poking out. I also looked at him from above. He should have a visible waist, not be a straight-up rectangle.
- Adjusted Gradually: I increased the food a little bit at a time, maybe 1/4 cup per day, until I found the sweet spot where he was maintaining a healthy weight and his energy levels were good.
- Split into Multiple Meals:I feed him twice a day instead of one big meal. This seems to help with his digestion and keeps him from getting too hungry between meals.
Right now, Max is getting about 3 cups of Taste of the Wild per day, split into two meals. He's maintaining a good weight, his coat is shiny, and he's full of energy (sometimes too much energy!).
It's important to remember every dog is different,I figured out what I should do. My method that I mentioned above seems working good. So, just keep an eye on your pup, and adjust as needed!
