Mometavet for Dogs Ear Infections: Does It Really Work?
Okay, so today I wanted to talk about something that's been a real lifesaver for my furry best friend, my dog Max: Mometavet.

It all started a few months back. I noticed Max was constantly scratching his ears, shaking his head, and just generally seemed uncomfortable. His ears were red and looked pretty inflamed. I felt so bad for the little guy!
First, I tried some over-the-counter ear cleaners, you know, the ones you can get at any pet store. I figured it might just be some built-up wax or something simple. I carefully followed the instructions, gently cleaning his ears every day. But it didn't seem to help much. He was still scratching and miserable.
So, I booked an appointment with our vet. After a quick check-up, the vet told me Max had a pretty nasty ear infection. She explained it was likely a combination of yeast and bacteria. Ugh, poor Max!
That's when she prescribed Mometavet. She showed me how to apply it – just a few drops in each ear, once a day. I was a little nervous at first, I'll admit. I didn't want to hurt him, but the vet assured me it was easy and that Max would feel much better soon.
The Application Process:
- First, I made sure Max was calm and relaxed. Treats definitely helped with this!
- Then, I gently held his ear flap up to expose the ear canal.
- I carefully inserted the nozzle of the Mometavet bottle into his ear – not too deep, just enough to get the medication in.
- I squeezed the prescribed number of drops into his ear.
- Then, – and this is important! – I massaged the base of his ear for about 30 seconds to make sure the medication spread around. It made a squishy sound, which Max didn't seem to mind too much.
- Finally, I let go of his ear and let him shake his head. This helped distribute the medication even further.
Honestly, the first couple of times were a bit of a struggle. Max wasn't thrilled about having something squirted in his ears, but he quickly got used to it, especially when he realized it was making him feel better.
And boy, did it work! Within a few days, I noticed a huge difference. The redness started to go down, and he wasn't scratching nearly as much. After a week, his ears looked so much healthier, and he was back to his old, playful self. I continued the treatment for the full course the vet prescribed, just to make sure the infection was completely gone.
So, yeah, that's my experience with Mometavet. It was a total game-changer for Max. If your dog is struggling with ear problems, definitely talk to your vet. It might be just what they need!
